My Mitten

No matter where you move, you are always from where you are from.  In my case, that is Michigan.

Iowa is still in the Midwest, but I never realized how culturally regional states can be until one of my Iowan co-workers described a word she'd seen on a T-shirt while visiting Mackinac Island: Uppers (pronunciation used: up-pers).  "Oh," I rephrased in my mind, "you mean Yoopers" (pronunciation used: you-pers).  Yes, indeed she did.

There are so many Michiganisms that I miss, one of which being the opportunity to point to your hand in any situation and consequently use it as a map (very confusing to non-Michiganders).

Notice, our current location does not exist HA!

We're still figuring out many of the Iowanisms, but the biggest ones we've noticed include the following:
  • Dinner is referred to as supper
  • Everyone is obsessed with hawks
